Categories organize the transactions behind your spending views, budgets, recurring detection, and reports. Use a category that describes the purpose of the activity rather than creating one for every merchant.

Open categories

Open Categories from the Miyo sidebar. You can also open Settings → Categories when you are already reviewing account preferences. Miyo separates categories into:

Create a category

1

Choose Add Category

Select Add Category from the Categories page, or use the add control in Settings → Categories.
2

Name the category

Enter a short name that you will recognize while reviewing transactions and budgets.
3

Choose the category group

Select the group that matches how the activity should behave in spending totals.
4

Choose an icon and color

Use the visual options to make the category easier to scan. They do not change how an amount is calculated.
5

Save the category

Confirm that the new category appears in the correct group before assigning transactions to it.

Edit a category

Open the category’s actions menu and select Edit, or select the category in Settings → Categories. Update its name, group, icon, or color, then save.
Renaming a category keeps existing transactions associated with that category. Changing its group can change how those transactions appear in spending, income, transfer, budget, and report totals.

Delete a category

Open the category and choose Delete Category, or use Delete from its actions menu.
Deleting a category makes transactions using it uncategorized and can remove related budget entries. Review the transaction count shown for the category before confirming.
After deletion, open Transactions and filter for uncategorized activity. Assign replacement categories before relying on budget or spending totals.

Review and categorize transactions

Correct uncategorized activity and verify transaction types.
